There is a saying that goes: "If you have nothing much to say, shut up." Or maybe I just made that up.
Up to now I am still bedazzled by the fact that people like Jamby Madrigal are seated as one of the top legislators of the country. Not only do we see blank and useless questions during Senate hearings, but also random banters and senseless interviews.
Just early this week, she hit the headlines again by hitting on a fellow Senator, Sen. Pia Cayetano, for following up a long-overdue Senate bill that should have been given a perfect timing to be passed, following the month-long celebration of the Women's Month. She was slighted by the memo sent to her office, alleging that Sen. Pia insinuates that her office is incompetent. If it were true, I couldn't agree more.
She then made "ad hominem" statements to Cayetano, stating that she should just focus on her work of legislation instead of joining in triathlons and other races. And may I quote from http://www.philippinestar.com/, Sen Jamby even stated: "Itigil mo na yang pangangarera mo, hindi ka kabayo."
Our country has already wasted millions of taxpayer pesos with useless times spent by the Senate doing investigations, useless privilege speeches, and pointless debates. Discontent over the Senate's current legislative performance is increasing. And statements like this by a "respected" Senator do not help in alleviating the already poor image of the Senate.
I hope that Jamby realizes that being in a position where she is now, she should be doubly responsible with the things she says and does. Same goes with all the other Senators today. Please please please help our country develop, not further drench it in mud.

Buon Giorno! It literally means good day in Italian. It could literally be your feeling after dining at Buon Giorno at the Cliffhouse in Tagaytay City. Coupled with a soothing breeze of cool air, Buon Giorno sure is a relaxing getaway food trip, just a few hours away from the busy streets of Manila. Bubbles and I decided to celebrate our 4th year there, and it was a perfect choice.
We tried their Greek Salad, Seafood Risotto and Prime Rib Steak. All were delicious. And the price? Affordable.

Political noise won’t affect foreign investors’ interest in RP – BPO exec

Foreign businessmen who visited the country recently said the political noise which has plagued the country had minimal effect on the appetite for investments.
Chris Sullivan, managing director of Deutsche Knowledge Services described the political noise as “high frequency but low impact.”
Sullivan, together with other business process outsourcing (BPO) executives, visited the country last week for the 8th eServices Global Sourcing Conference.
According to Sullivan, the coup attempt in November staged by Sen. Antonio Trillanes and Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim had no effect on the operations of their local office.
Sullivan said the government was able to manage the risks well.
Despite the political turmoil, Sullivan said their business has been thriving. Deutsche Knowledge Services has in fact increased its profitability by 20 percent in the past three years.
For his part, Alexis Sukharev, president of Auriga announced he was impressed with the way the Philippine government has supported the local industry.
His statement was supported by Marc Granic, president of Mera Networks.
“You are lucky to have the support of your President that is real and sincere,” Granic said referring to the P350 million government support for talent development in the outsourcing industry.
The two-day eServices conference brought together suppliers and buyers in the industry which highlighted the country’s openness to looking at the outsourcing industry from a global perspective.

GMA resign movement... Again?!
Once again, we are faced with a dilemma of whether we should kick GMA's butt out of Malacañang or not. If we choose to join the rallies and she gets ousted, what's to happen to our nation? We are faced with a problem of seating an equally dangerous Vice-president (due to competence). But of course, that is yet to be seen. If indeed the person to replace GMA lacks the intellectual and political competence, then, we are once again faced with a problem of vulture infestation in Malacañang. Power-hungry oligarchs will once again surround the presidency and will eventually control power, with the sitting-duck VP-turned-President as puppet.
But of course we all want to restore honesty and integrity in the highest seat fo power. But for now, I think we are in political deadlock. My suggestion here is that we remain vigilant and responsive, but just wait for the next elections to come. I hope we already learned tons of lessons with these latest controversies and scandals. All we have to do now is put these learnings into new actions and new decisions on how to select the next leaders of the country. We just do it the Senate way: In aid of our personal legislations in terms of selecting the next leaders of our country.
Also, if we could put to good use our colonial mentality, we can make do of imitating the US population. We all know that George W. Bush is probably one of the most hated Presidents in the US. But the people remained resilient and moved on with their lives with the hope that the next President would not be as trigger-happy and squandering as him. Let's just do that.
I am pro-truth and pro-honesty. But in this case, I am thinking twice about supporting an oust-GMA movement. ;)
I am also hands-down to Mr. Jun Lozada for his latest exposes on the ZTE broadband deal. He had a choice to remain silent and continue to live his usual lifestyle. But for the sake of truth and honesty, he chose to expose everything and live the dangerous but honest (and patriotic) path. As he have said, he does not want a GMA ouster. He just wants corruption to lessen, if not quelled totally.
God bless the Philippines.

ROME (Reuters) - Rome's mayor sacked the city's traffic and parking chief on Sunday after a newspaper reported he parked his car in a no parking zone and displayed a handicapped permit that belonged to an 86-year old woman.
Giovanni Catanzaro parked his red Alfa Romeo Brera in a tow away zone near the Spanish Steps in central Rome before heading off to a restaurant on Friday night, Roman daily Il Messaggero reported on Sunday, complete with pictures from the scene.
His car displayed a permit for disabled drivers that was no longer valid and initially issued to a senior citizen, the paper said, noting that officials almost never tow away a disabled person's vehicle no matter where it is parked.
A spokesman for Rome Mayor Walter Veltroni said Catanzaro had been removed from his post as head of the city's municipal police force that oversees traffic and parking violations after the newspaper report.
Rome has a series of restrictions on driving and parking along many of its narrow, cobblestoned streets, though parking illegally -- often on sidewalks and crosswalks -- is a common sight across the city.

Munchen
Just tried this in one German restaurant along Mabini St., Ermita (yes, Ermita indeed.), Manila. For those who love trying out holes in walls, maybe you would want to try this restaurant. They sell great German food (for Filipino food lovers, they also sell Pinoy food), with ice cold German Wheat Beer. My officemates checked it out one lunch break (since it's just a few blocks away from UN Ave.), and my lady and I tried it out last Saturday. We tried the sausage platter. Ayos...

Suicides and Explosions
What's with the alignment of the stars lately, that what we hear in the radio and TV are news that report one of two things: a suicide and an explosion?!
Just last week, we read and heard about the explosion in a subdivision in Bacoor, Cavite, just a few weeks after the dreaded Glorietta accident. Just last Tuesday, a suspected bomb exploded just in the foot of one of the most prominent seats of power, the Batasang Pambansa, killing Rep. Wahab Akbar and 3 others, and injuring 8 people including Reps. Luzviminda Ilagan and Henry Pryde Teves.
Meanwhile, after the Marianeth Amper suicide, two other students were reported to have suicide due to despair and poverty. Also, among others, a farmer in Butuan City, took his own life due to extreme poverty, while a Japanese businessman was found dead. Another man allegedly jumped in the 4th floor of Trinoma mall, killing himself and injuring the person he fell on.
As for the bombings, I really hope these are not intertwined and their cases are all isolated. As for the series of suicides, hopefully the "Tipping Point" concept of suicide has not yet arrived in the country...
I hope we'll never forget that we are Filipinos, fun-loving, hospitable, caring. We are never a brutal race by nature. Let us not let colonial mentality overrule this trait...
