Winter scenes in the National Mall

It's tough to shoot photos during winter. I have issues dealing with the cold temperature, fearing that my equipment might freeze up. By camera body is weather sealed, but my lens isn't. Oh well. Just have to keep up with the commitment. Thus, I am posting three photos taken on the same day but would represent three days of the 365-day challenge. : )

First Snow of the Season 2015

Mother nature gave me white for my birthday. It was the first snow of winter 2015.

As the District has a track record of overestimating snow forecasts, this time it was somewhat underprepared to face the storm. Or maybe mother nature somehow played a trick on Washingtonians because they always made fun of an overestimated forecast.

This time, it was stronger than forecasted. While expected snow was between 1-3 inches, more than 3 inches fell this morning. This caused roads to get slippery, causing delays left and right.

It was a lesson for them that it is always better to be prepared for something that will not come rather than underprepare for something worse. It's a valuable lesson I learned from my days in the insurance industry. You need not expect to get sick to get health insurance, nor you need to expect to die soon to get life insurance. It is always much better to be overprepared.

Then, as expected, people blamed the government for underestimating the storm... :)

Double exposure

I just can't stop photographing foliage in and around Washington, DC. This is another one of many mundane days which were accentuated by a 15-30-minute photo session of lovely fiery trees of autumn. This time, I tried my camera's double exposure feature. It looked okay, and I thought of sharing this as my Day 50 POTD.

Adoring Autumn

Autumn for me is the most beautiful season (no offense to the other three). I so love the mix of colors, weather, even the people's mood are just so... beautiful. A good mix of fire trees and the thought of Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas all approaching probably contribute to it's beauty. That is why I spend time to stop and take lots of pictures of people, landscape, and other scenes related to autumn.

Here's one of the photos I took of DC Autumn this year.

Fall 2011

My first-ever fall seems to be the shortest season of the year. As early as October 29, snow was falling the fall skies of DC. And by now, we are experiencing a pre-winter temperature, ranging from the high-forties to the low sixties. Brrrr...

The shot above was taken in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia. We went there to see its famous foliage in the fall, as the season helps shave off the leaves of the trees. But to our surprise, as we were only going on our second month of the fall, leaves have already fallen, and trees are now on winter mode. There were very few leaves left on trees, and a couple of them we see above.

Is the earth really shifting, or is it really just the time of the century where seasons change and weird things happen?
